May 16, 2014 – Halifax, NS – The Halifax Port Authority is absolutely delighted the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall have chosen to visit the Halifax Seaport during the upcoming Royal Tour of Canada. May 19, 2014 will be an exciting and historic day.

The Royal Tour visit to the Halifax Seaport will start shortly after 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 19. Their Royal Highnesses will be touring the Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market and then making their way to The Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 before continuing on their journey. Accompanying them during their tour of the Halifax Seaport will be Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil and his wife, Andrea.

The Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market will be open to the public that day for a special event called “Cultivate” and other Seaport tenants will also be open.

As a result of the events planned for May 19, 2014, we are expecting higher volumes of traffic on that day and additional demands placed on available parking. From 10:00 a.m. until approximately 2:15 p.m., the Harbourwalk roadway will be closed to traffic. This roadway runs from the Halifax Port Authority Administration Building, past the Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market, Garrison Brewery, NSCAD and the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21. Marginal Road will remain open to traffic.

The parking lot in front of the Farmers’ Market will not be available for public parking. Other parking lots located throughout the Halifax Seaport will be open on a first-come, first-served basis; those planning to visit the Seaport should be prepared for traffic delays and limited available parking. We encourage all who can to either walk, bike, or take public transit.
